Whether you are updating a few rooms or reworking the whole house, Canvas Builds manages your renovation from the first walkthrough to the final coat of paint. One team coordinates the design, permits, trades and finishes, so you are not juggling contractors.

We renovate detached homes, semis and townhouses across Kitchener-Waterloo, Bradford, Toronto and the GTA — from older homes that need structural updates to newer builds that just need a modern refresh.

Open-concept kitchen and living room renovation

What’s included

  • Site visit, measurements and a written, itemized quote
  • Layout planning and open-concept conversions
  • Permit drawings and building permit applications
  • Demolition, framing, drywall and finishing
  • Licensed electrical, plumbing and HVAC trades
  • Kitchens, bathrooms, basements, flooring and paint in one contract
  • Final walkthrough and deficiency sign-off

One contractor for the whole project

Most renovations touch several trades at once. When one company is responsible for scheduling and quality, there are fewer gaps between trades, fewer delays and a single point of contact when you have a question.

Before work starts you get a clear scope, a schedule and an itemized price, so you know exactly what is included.

Permits and the Ontario Building Code

Structural changes, new plumbing, additional units and many layout changes need a building permit from your municipality. We prepare or coordinate the drawings, apply for the permit and book the inspections, and our work is built to the Ontario Building Code.

Main Floor & Kitchen Renovation in Mississauga

Mississauga, Ontario

The homeowner loved her neighbourhood but not her kitchen. It was dark, closed-in and cut off from the dining room by a load-bearing wall, with dated cabinets, worn tile and too little storage. She wanted a bright, open space where the family could cook, eat and spend time together.

We designed the new kitchen with her in 3D, chose every finish together, then took out the wall and rebuilt the main floor around it. Drag the slider to see the difference, then follow the story step by step.

  • 3D design and finish selection before work began
  • Load-bearing wall replaced with a new beam
  • Navy island, white shaker cabinets and quartz
  • Floor-to-ceiling pantry storage
  • Waterproof vinyl plank floors and refaced stairs
  • Fresh paint and pot lights throughout

The story of this kitchen — from first conversation to final reveal

  1. Original Mississauga kitchen with dark wood cabinets, tile floor and the load-bearing wall beside the fridge1

    Where it started

Dark cabinets, worn tile and a load-bearing wall boxing in the kitchen. We sat down with the homeowner on site to hear how she cooks, how the family uses the space and what wasn’t working.

  2. 3D design rendering of the new kitchen layout with pantry wall, island and range2

Seeing it before we build it

We measured the room and designed a new open layout, then presented it as a 3D rendering. She could see the island, pantry wall and appliance spots, and fine-tune them, before a single wall came down.

  3. 3D rendering showing navy lower cabinets, white uppers, marble-look backsplash and brass handles3

    Choosing every finish together

Navy lowers or all white? Brass or black handles? We reviewed samples and renderings together to choose cabinets, countertop, backsplash, hardware, flooring, paint colours and even the stair spindles, so there were no surprises later.

  4. 3D rendering of floor-to-ceiling white pantry cabinets with brass hardware beside the patio door4

    Planning the storage

A wall of floor-to-ceiling pantry cabinets beside the patio door solved the storage problem. Planning it in 3D meant it lined up perfectly with the door and window trim.

  5. Load-bearing wall removed between the kitchen and dining area, with the new beam carrying the floor joists above5

    Taking down the wall

The biggest change of all. With the floor above safely supported, we removed the load-bearing wall and installed a new beam to carry the joists, opening the kitchen to the dining area for good.

  6. Crew removing old ceramic floor tile from the main floor6

    Back to a clean slate

The old ceramic tile and thinset came up across the whole main floor, leaving a clean, flat subfloor ready for one continuous new floor.

  7. Vinyl stair treads and risers being installed on the staircase7

One floor, from the kitchen to the stairs

Waterproof vinyl plank now runs through the kitchen, dining and living areas, and the stairs were refaced with matching treads and nosings so everything flows.

  8. Painted living room with new vinyl plank flooring, pot lights and brick fireplace8

    Light, bright and repainted

The dark walls are gone. Warm, light paint and new pot lights brighten every room, including the living room around the original fireplace.

  9. Finished kitchen with floor-to-ceiling white pantry cabinets and stainless fridge9

    The reveal

Exactly what she saw in the 3D design: a wall of white pantry storage, a navy island with quartz counters, brass hardware and stainless appliances.

  10. Finished Mississauga kitchen from the side, showing the navy island, white shaker cabinets, quartz counters and the open dining area10

    Made for gathering

Where a wall used to divide the rooms, the kitchen, island and dining area now flow together, with space to cook, eat and spend time as a family.

Do you offer free renovation estimates?

Yes. We visit the home, talk through what you want to achieve and send a written, itemized estimate at no cost.

Do I need a permit for my home renovation?

It depends on the work. Structural changes, new or relocated plumbing, new units and some electrical work usually need a permit; cosmetic updates like painting and flooring usually do not. We tell you what applies and handle the application.

Can we live in the house during the renovation?

Often, yes. We phase the work where possible, contain dust and agree on working hours with you before we start.
